Abstract:
Various aspects include methods for onboarding information in electronic shelf labels (110, 51, 52, 53). In aspects performed by ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53), such methods may include scanning for a wakeup packet from an access point (130) remote from the ESL (110, 51, 52, 53) before transmitting an ESL advertisement (330, 370, 372), transmitting the ESL advertisement (330, 370, 372) in response to receiving a wakeup packet that includes information indicating the ESL (110, 51, 52, 53) should transmit the ESL advertisement (330, 370, 372), and then receiving onboarding messages (340, 380, 382) or a low power mode directive from the access point (130). In aspects performed by an access point (130), such methods may include broadcasting a wakeup packet that identifies a select one or more ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53) among the plurality of ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53) to transmit ESL advertisements (330, 370, 372), receiving one or more ESL advertisements (330, 370, 372) from the identified select one or more advertising ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53) from among the plurality of ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53), and transmitting an onboarding message (340, 380, 382) to each of the ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53) corresponding to the select one or more ESLs (110, 51, 52, 53).
