Abstract:

A microbial fuel cell which is provided with: an anode electrode which uses, as a catalyst, current-generating bacteria that are supplied from soil or mud, and which oxidizes an organic fuel that is supplied from soil or mud; and a cathode electrode which reduces oxygen that is supplied from air or water. This microbial fuel cell is characterized in that an oxygen permeation restricting layer is arranged between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode facing each other. This microbial fuel cell has high power generation performance due to direct power generation from soil or mud, and is able to be reduced in thickness and size. In addition, this microbial fuel cell is able to be obtained at low cost.
