A microscope (10) for an operation, having a horizontal movement arm section (16) for moving a microscope section (24) in a substantially horizontal direction and having a vertical movement arm section (20) for moving the microscope section (24) in a substantially vertical direction. A first elastic force producing mechanism connected to a base bottom section (14) and to a horizontal movement arm section (16) generates an elastic force that cancels rotational moment about first horizontal rotation shafts (O2, O3) arranged on the base bottom section (14), the rotational moment occurring when the horizontal movement arm section (16) pivots on the first horizontal rotation shafts (O2, O3). Also, a second elastic force producing mechanism connected to a base bottom section (14) and to a vertical movement arm section (20) generates an elastic force that cancels rotational moment about second horizontal rotation shafts (O6, O7) arranged on the horizontal movement arm section (16), the rotational moment occurring when the vertical movement arm section (20) pivots on the second horizontal rotation shafts (O6, O7).
