Abstract:
Microsphere preparations containing a neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist and a hardly water-soluble, biocompatible and biodegradable polymer which are highly useful in clinical medicine because of being capable of efficaciously inhibiting acute vomiting, late vomiting and anticipated vomiting induced by the administration of vomiting substances (chemotherapeutics for cancer, opioid analgesics, etc.), radiotherapy and the like and preventing the side effects of vomiting in chemotherapy for cancer and radiotherapy, whereby vomiting can be efficiently inhibited by a single parenteral administration of the neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist during the corresponding period, compared with the case of the intravenous administration of an aqueous solution of the neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist once a day, though the neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist is contained only in an amount, or even less, required in inhibiting vomiting over a long time by a single intravenous administration of the aqueous solution of the neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist once a day.
