Abstract:
Provided are a mixture separation method with reduced mechanical structural demands and with which processing can be performed efficiently in a short time compared to previous methods, and a separation device. The invention is a mixture separation method and device that apply a gradient magnetic field on a paramagnetic support liquid comprising a mixture containing first particles and second particles to separate the particles by variety. The magnetic susceptibility of the first particles is lower than the magnetic susceptibility of the support liquid and the magnetic susceptibility of the second particles is higher than the magnetic susceptibility of the support liquid. Using a magnetic field-generating means (11), a gradient magnetic field is applied on the support liquid inside a separation tank (7), which is provided with a magnetic filter means (9), and the support liquid is stirred. The first particles are made to float in the support liquid by a magneto-Archimedes effect. By the action of a horizontal magnetic force due to the gradient magnetic field, the first particles move to a region to the side or to the outside of the magnetic filter means (9) and are collected. The magnetic filter means (9) is magnetized by the gradient magnetic field and scavenges the second particles.
