Abstract:
Provided are a mixture separation method and a separation device capable of separating a mixture containing multiple kinds of fluids using a counterflow classification technique even when the differences in density and particle diameter corresponding to the particle types are small. The invention separates a mixture containing first particles and second particles using a separating tube (13) configured in a reverse cone shape or a reverse spindle shape. The magnetic susceptibility of the substance forming the first particles differs from the magnetic susceptibility of the substance forming the second particles. A fluid is made to flow upward in the separating tube (13) and the mixture is introduced into the separating tube (13) using said fluid flow. The first particles and second particles are held inside the separating tube (13) in an intermixed state. With the first particles and second particles held inside the separating tube (13), a gradient magnetic field is applied on the region inside the separating tube (13) using a magnetic field-generating means (23). The magnetic field gradient of the gradient magnetic field has a vertical component.
