Abstract:

A novel polymerization initiator which can introduce an active amino proton into a polymerization initiation end without being deprived of its polymerization activity; and a novel modified conjugated diene polymer which has excellent interaction with a filler and can give a rubber composition reduced in heat build-up. The polymerization initiator is a diamine compound in which one of the amino groups has been protected by a silylating agent and the active proton of the other amino group has been replaced with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. The modified conjugated diene polymer, which can be produced with the polymerization initiator, is a homopolymer of a conjugated diene compound or a copolymer of a conjugated diene compound with an aromatic vinyl compound and has a residue derived from a diamine compound at the polymerization initiation end.
