A modular millimeter wave radar, comprising a plurality of radar modules, with each radar module comprising a radar chip, and a receiving antenna array and a transmission antenna array that are connected to the radar chip, wherein the distance from the receiving antenna array and the transmission antenna array to an edge of the radar module is less than half of a formed virtual array. A plurality of radar modules performing modular cascading comprises the following steps: physically cascading a plurality of radar modules according to the arrangement of a receiving antenna array and a transmission antenna array of each radar module; and performing intra-module calibration on one radar module, and performing inter-module calibration on a plurality of radar modules for which physical cascading is completed. The beneficial effect lies in that it becomes easier to construct a virtual array by means of a modular vehicle-mounted radar. Only modules need to be installed one behind the other on a substrate in order to perform modular cascading, such that the high-precision radar is more flexible in design and is also easier to implement.
