Abstract:
The present invention provides a mold material for a shell mold which makes it possible to advantageously mold a shell mold capable of effectively suppressing or preventing an occurrence of a molding defect relating to a casting surface, veining, a pin hole, or the like. This mold material for a shell mold is prepared in such a manner as to comprise a mixture including a fire resistant aggregate, phenol resin, and a tar generating material of which a residual carbon rate acquired by a thermogravimetric analysis in a nitrogen atmosphere is less than 30 mass%, and set a tar generating amount at a time when a mold made of the mixture is heated at 600°C for 6 minutes to be equal to or more than 3 mg per gram of the mold.
