The present invention provides a money-processing apparatus that can suitably perform close examination processing of a first storage unit regardless of the maximum storage amount of the first storage unit, and without causing enlargement of the money-processing apparatus. The money-processing apparatus comprises: the first storage unit that stores money and that discharges stored money; a transport unit that transports money; an identification unit that identifies money; and a control unit that, by the identification unit identifying money inside the first storage unit that has been discharged from the first storage unit and transported by the transport unit, performs a close-examination process that determines the amount of money stored inside the first storage unit. The control unit performs the close-examination process when a considered storage amount, which is the amount of money considered to be stored in the first storage unit, fulfills a prescribed condition, which is that the presumed storage amount is equal to or less than the amount of money that can be simultaneously positioned in a location other than the first storage unit inside the money processing apparatus.
