Abstract:
In a camera having an automatic iris open/close mechanism, there has been a problem in that an iris becomes unable to operate in the case where the iris is not operated over a long period of time. According to the present invention, a monitoring camera is provided with: a light reception unit; an iris for adjusting the amount of light passing through the light reception unit; an iris open/close unit; an image pickup element for converting the light that has passed through the light reception unit into a video signal; a light-amount feedback open/close control unit for controlling the iris open/close unit so as to open/close the iris in accordance with the brightness of the video signal; and an open/close control unit for controlling the iris open/close unit so as to open/close the iris not in accordance with the brightness of the video signal but in the case where a predetermined condition has been met.
