The purpose of the present invention is to remotely monitor an operation of an operating device, such as a television remote controller having a plurality of manually operating portions, with respect to a main device. This monitoring system includes a battery-type power supply apparatus 40. The battery-type power supply apparatus is mounted in a battery box of an operating device 30 for remotely operating an external device 70. A server apparatus 10 is connected to the battery-type power supply apparatus via a network 60. The battery-type power supply apparatus comprises a current detection means (401, 402, 403, 407) for detecting an internal current flowing through the operating device, and a transmission means (405, 406) for externally transmitting data indicating a variation in the detected internal current. The server apparatus comprises: a means 14 for receiving the data indicating the variation; an operation identifying means 11 for identifying, on the basis of the data indicating the variation, an operating portion of the external device that has been operated; and a means 14 for transmitting, via the network to an external processing apparatus 50, 51, information pertaining to the identified operating portion or the result of tallying the information.
