A monitoring system, a data transmission method, a portable monitor (11), and a configurator (12). The system comprises the portable monitor (11) and the configurator (12); a mechanical detachable connection can be realized between the portable monitor (11) and the configurator (12); the portable monitor (11) is capable of working independently after the portable monitor (11) and the configurator (12) are mechanically separated. The configurator (12) is used for storing description information, the description information at least comprising one of network configuration information and medical area position setting information. The portable monitor (11) comprises a measurement module (401), used for collecting physiological data of a patient; a communication module (402), used for accessing to a network of a hospital and performing data transmission of the physiological data; a switch-on detection circuit (403), used for outputting a control signal after detecting that the portable monitor (11) is connected to the configurator (12); a processor (404), used for obtaining the description information from the configurator (12) on the basis of the control signal, and configuring the portable monitor (11) according to the obtained description information.
