This motor is provided in a compressor and comprises a rotor and a stator. The rotor comprises a shaft that is linked to a compression mechanism section of the compressor and a rotor core that is attached to the shaft. The stator comprises a stator core that surrounds the rotor core from the radially outer side, with the central axis of the shaft as the center, and a coil that is wound onto the stator core. The rotor core protrudes from the stator core on the opposite side from the compression mechanism section with respect to the direction of the central axis. Stator core comprises a first core section and a second core section in the direction of the central axis, and the second core section is located between the first core section and the compression mechanism section. The distance A1 from the central axis to the first core section is greater than the distance A2 from the central axis to the second core section. The first core section is formed from first electromagnetic steel plates, and the second core section is formed from second electromagnetic steel plates. The silicon content of at least one of the second electromagnetic steel plates is less than the silicon content of at least one of the first electromagnetic steel plates.
