Characteristic coordinates used in this motor control method use the rotational speed of a motor and the torque of the motor as axes and include: a first region indicating a region in which the rotational speed is higher than a first predetermined rotational speed; a second region indicating a region in which the rotational speed is less than or equal to the first predetermined rotational speed and the torque is higher than a predetermined torque; and a third region indicating a region in which the rotational speed is less than or equal to the first predetermined rotational speed and the torque is less than or equal to the predetermined torque. In the characteristic coordinates, when an operating point indicating current rotational speed and torque is included in the first region, a carrier frequency is set to a reference frequency. When the operating point is included in the second region, the carrier frequency is set by selecting either the reference frequency or a low frequency lower than the reference frequency. When the operating point is included in the third region, the carrier frequency is set to the low frequency. When the operating point is included in a region other than a specific region disposed inside the third region, the modulation method of a PWM signal is set to a three-phase modulation. When the operating point is included in the specific region, the modulation method of the signal is set to a two-phase modulation.
