Abstract:
A motor drive device (1) comprises: a rectification circuit (10); a smoothing capacitor (12) that smoothens an output voltage outputted from the rectification circuit (10); an inverter (13) that has a plurality of switching elements (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q6), that converts an inputted DC voltage into an AC voltage, and that outputs the AC voltage to windings (Lu, Lv, Lw) of a motor (14); and a control unit (15) that has a current detection unit (15d) for detecting the magnitude of output current outputted from the rectification circuit (10) and a drive unit (15a) that outputs a signal to the switching elements (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q6) to cause the same to perform a switching operation. The smoothing capacitor (12) is a film capacitor, and sets the current to be inputted to the inverter (13) greater when the output current is greater during restrained energization in which current is passed through the windings (Lu, Lv, Lw) while rotation of the motor (14) is stopped.
