Abstract:
The invention relates to a lighting device (10) for a motor vehicle, comprising a gas discharge lamp (12), an ignition device (14) and a separate control device (16) which can be detachably connected to the ignition device (14), said control device (16) being configured to supply an input voltage for the ignition device (14) and an operation voltage for the gas discharge lamp (12), and said ignition device (14) being configured to produce, from the input voltage, an ignition voltage for the gas discharge lamp (12). The lighting device (10) is characterised in that the gas discharge lamp (12) is configured to consume less than 30 watts of electrical power when in regular operation, and in that the ignition device (14) and the control device (16) are configured to be connected to one another in a mechanically rigid manner yet so as to be both mechanically and electrically detachable.
