Abstract:
An vaping system may include a locking sheath to lock the mouthpiece onto the tank with a reservoir for holding a liquid to be vaporized. The locking sheath includes at least one tooth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the at least one tooth for interfacing with a central lumen of a cartridge tank to lock the central lumen of the cartridge tank to the locking sheath.

CLAIMS

What is claimed:

1. A vaping system comprising: a tank with a reservoir for holding a liquid to be vaporized, the tank having a proximal end for connection to a mouthpiece and a distal end for connection to a cartridge base; an atomizer housing within the tank, the atomizer housing comprising a distal base portion for receiving the liquid to be vaporized, and a central lumen for a vapor to be drawn proximally, the central lumen extending from a distal end to a proximal end, the proximal end of the central lumen comprising a first ridge, a second ridge, and a third ridge, each of the first, second and third ridges extending circumferentially laterally from the central lumen; the first ridge for interfacing with a locking sheath, the second a third ridges for receiving a gasket between the second and third ridges; a mouthpiece having an external wall and an interior guide lumen for receiving vapor from the proximal end of the central lumen, a slot formed between the interior guide lumen and the external wall, the slot for receiving a proximal end of the locking sheath; the locking sheath comprising the proximal end for interfacing with the mouthpiece, and a distal end, an interior side defining a lumen and an exterior side, a distal flange extending from the exterior side, a medial ridge extending from the exterior side, the distal flange and the medial ridge forming a space for receiving a sealing gasket between the distal flange and the medial ridge, the medial ridge for interfacing between the proximal end of the tank and the base of the mouthpiece; the locking sheath further comprising exactly three teeth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the exactly three teeth for interfacing with the first ridge of the central lumen of the atomizer housing within the tank, the three teeth spaced equidistant apart.

2. The vaping system of claim 1, further comprising an intenor shelf formed on the interior side of the lumen, and wherein the three teeth extend inwardly and proximally from the interior shelf.

3. The vaping system of claim 1, wherein the exactly three teeth each have a width of one-sixth of a circumference of the lumen.

4. A locking sheath for an vaping system, the locking sheath comprising: a proximal end for interfacing with a mouthpiece, a distal end, an interior side forming a lumen and an exterior side, a distal flange extending from the exterior side, a medial ridge extending from the exterior side, the distal flange and the medial ridge forming a space for receiving a sealing gasket between the distal flange and the medial ridge, the medial ridge for interfacing between a top of a cartridge and a base of the mouthpiece; the locking sheath further comprising at least one tooth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the at least one tooth for interfacing with a central lumen of a cartridge tank to lock the central lumen of the cartridge tank to the locking sheath.

A vaping device comprising: an oil cup (1), wherein a connecting post (2) is sleeved inside the oil cup (1), a mouthpiece body (3) being sleeved on the outer wall of the top of the connecting post (2), a decorative part (302) being sleeved on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body (3), an elastic buckle (300) being arranged on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body (3), a hanging platform (202) being arranged on the outer wall of the top of the connecting post (2), and the elastic buckle (300) being coupled on the outer wall of the bottom of the hanging platform (202).

The vaping device of claim 5, wherein a first sealing ring (200) is sleeved on the outer wall of the connecting post (2) and on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body (3), and first flanges (201) being symmetrically arranged on the outer wall of two sides of the first sealing ring (200) and fixedly connected on the outer wall of the connecting post (2).

7. The vaping device of claim 5, wherein a second sealing ring (301) is sleeved on the outer wall of the mouthpiece body (3) and on the inner wall of the oil cup (1).

8. The vaping device of claim 5, wherein a first washer (203) is sleeved on the outer wall of the bottom of the connecting post (2) and on the inner wall of the oil cup (1), a second flange (205) being arranged on the outer wall of the top of the first washer (203) and fixedly connected on the outer wall of the connecting post (2), and a second washer (204) being arranged on the outer wall of the bottom of the oil cup (1) and sleeved on the outer wall of the connecting post (2).

9. The e-cigarette atomizer with a novel mouthpiece and heating core according to claim 8, wherein a cavity (206) is arranged on the inner wall of the bottom of the connecting post (2), a non-woven sleeve (4) being sleeved on the inner wall of the cavity (206), a heating core body (400) being sleeved on the inner wall of the non-woven sleeve (4), a coil (401) being inlaid and fixed on the inner wall of the heating core body (400), one end of the coil (401) being fixedly connected to a first pin (402), the first pin (402) being inlaid and fixed inside the heating core body (400), the other end of the coil (401) being fixedly connected to the second pin (403), and the second pin (403) being inlaid and fixed inside the heating core body (400).

The vaping device according to claim 9, wherein the bottom of the heating core body (400) is provided with a POM (5), the POM (5) being sleeved on the inner wall of the cavity (206), the second pin (403) being arranged on the inner wall of the POM (5), the bottom of the POM (5) being provided with an anode thimble (8), an electrode silicone sleeve (7) being sleeved on the outer wall of the anode thimble (8), one end of the first pin (402) being arranged on the inner wall of the electrode silicone sleeve (7), and a base (6) being sleeved on the outer wall of the electrode silicone sleeve (7) and mounted on the outer wall of the connecting post (2).

The vaping device of claim 10, wherein the heating core comprises a ceramic heating core, and wherein the inner diameter of the coil (401) is a first diameter d, the inner diameter of the heating core body (400) is a second diameter D, the first diameter d being smaller than the second diameter D, the wire diameter of the coil (401) being xd, and wherein xd cutting the diameter D.

12. A vaping system comprising: a tank with a reservoir for holding a liquid to be vaporized, the tank having a proximal end for connection to a mouthpiece and a distal end for connection to a cartridge base; an atomizer housing within the tank, the atomizer housing comprising a distal base portion for receiving the liquid to be vaporized, and a central lumen for a vapor to be drawn proximally, the central lumen extending from a distal end to a proximal end, the proximal end of the central lumen comprising a ridge extending circumferentially laterally from the central lumen, the ridge for interfacing with a locking sheath, a mouthpiece having an external wall and an interior guide lumen for receiving vapor from the proximal end of the central lumen, a slot formed between the interior guide lumen and the external wall, the slot for receiving a proximal end of the locking sheath; the locking sheath comprising the proximal end for interfacing with the mouthpiece, and a distal end, an interior side defining a lumen and an exterior side, a distal flange extending from the exterior side, a medial ridge extending from the exterior side, the distal flange and the medial ridge forming a space for receiving a sealing gasket between the distal flange and the medial ridge, the medial ridge for interfacing between the proximal end of the tank and the base of the mouthpiece; the locking sheath further comprising at least one tooth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the at least one tooth for interfacing with the ridge of the central lumen of the atomizer housing within the tank.

13. The vaping system of claim 12, wherein the central lumen comprises a second ridge and a third ridge, the second and third ridges for receiving a gasket between the second and third ridges. 14. The vaping system of claim 12 or claim 13, wherein the locking sheath comprises three teeth extending inwardly, the three teeth for interfacing with the first ridge of the central lumen of the atomizer housing within the tank.

15. The vaping system of any one of claims 12, 13, or 14, wherein the locking sheath comprises exactly three teeth extending inwardly.

16. The vaping system of claim 14 or claim 15, wherein the three teeth are spaced equidistant apart.

TITLE

MOUTHPIECE CONNECTORS FOR VAPING SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE

PRIORITY CLAIM

This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. 119(a) to Chinese utility application no. 202122492530.0, filed October 17, 2021 (“the ’530.0 Chinese priority application”), Chinese utility application no. 202122630462X, filed 30 October 2021 (“the ’462X Chinese priority application”), and claims priority under 35 U.S.C. 120 to U.S. provisional application no. 63/285,340, filed 2 December 2021 (“the ’340 provisional application”). The ’530.0 Chinese priority application, the ’462X Chinese priority application, and the ’340 provisional application are incorporated herein by reference in their entireties.

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates generally to devices using liquid inhalable precursors. More specifically, and without limitation, the present disclosure relates to devices for vaping and methods of manufacturing such devices.

RELATED ART

Vaping devices, also referred to herein as vaping devices (EVDs), may be used for portable vaping. An vaping device may vaporize a pre-vapor formulation, such as an oil that may or may not contain one or more cannabinoids, to form a vapor. The e-vaping device may include a reservoir that holds a pre-vapor formulation and a heating element that vaponzes the pre-vapor formulation by applying heat to at least a portion of the prevapor formulation. Vaping devices are often sold and shipped directly to local oil manufacturers, and then filled with a pre-vapor formulation, and capped by the local oil manufacturers.

Filling and capping may be done by hand, or it may be automated. For automated filling and capping, the mouthpiece must be able to be effectively and securely attached by machine to the reservoir. The mouthpiece and associated structures must plug the reservoir to ensure that no pre-vapor formulation can spill out of the reservoir. There is a need for improved design of an EVD that has a simple, secure, and reliable structure to lock the mouthpiece onto the reservoir.

SUMMARY

According to one aspect, an vaping system may include: a tank with a reservoir for holding a liquid to be vaporized, the tank having a proximal end for connection to a mouthpiece and a distal end for connection to a cartridge base; an atomizer housing within the tank, the atomizer housing comprising a distal base portion for receiving the liquid to be vaporized, and a central lumen for a vapor to be drawn proximally, the central lumen extending from a distal end to a proximal end, the proximal end of the central lumen comprising a first ridge, a second ridge, and a third ridge, each of the first, second and third ridges extending circumferentially laterally from the central lumen; the first ridge for interfacing with a locking sheath, the second a third ridges for receiving a gasket betw een the second and third ridges; a mouthpiece having an external wall and an interior guide lumen for receiving vapor from the proximal end of the central lumen, a space betw een the interior guide lumen and the external wall for receiving a proximal end of the locking sheath; the locking sheath comprising the proximal end for interfacing with the mouthpiece, and a distal end, an interior side forming a lumen and an exterior side, a distal flange extending from the exterior side, a medial ridge extending from the exterior side, the distal flange and the medial ridge forming a space for receiving a sealing gasket between the distal flange and the medial ridge, the medial ridge for interfacing between the top of the cartridge and the base of the mouthpiece; the locking sheath further comprising exactly three teeth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the exactly three teeth for interfacing with the first ridge of the central lumen of the atomizer housing within the tank, the three teeth spaced equidistant apart.

According to another aspect, an interior shelf is formed on the interior side of the lumen of the locking sheath, and the three teeth extend inwardly and proximally from the interior shelf. In some configurations the exactly three teeth each have a width of one- sixth of a circumference of the lumen. According to another aspect, a locking sheath for an vaping system includes: a proximal end for interfacing with a mouthpiece, a distal end, an interior side forming a lumen and an exterior side, a distal flange extending from the exterior side, a medial ridge extending from the exterior side, the distal flange and the medial ridge forming a space for receiving a sealing gasket between the distal flange and the medial ridge, the medial ridge for interfacing between a top of a cartridge and a base of the mouthpiece; the locking sheath further comprising at least one tooth extending inwardly from the interior side of the locking sheath facing the lumen of the locking sheath, the at least one tooth for interfacing with a central lumen of a cartridge tank to lock the central lumen of the cartridge tank to the locking sheath.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Advantages and features of the present disclosure and methods accomplishing them will become apparent from the following description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. Various aspects discussed in reference to one drawing may be present and/or used in conjunction with the embodiment shown in another drawing, and each element shown in multiple drawings may be discussed only once.

Unless otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing quantities of ingredients, properties and so forth used in the specification and claims are to be understood as being modified in all instances by the term “about.” Accordingly, unless indicated to the contrary, the numerical parameters set forth in the specification and attached claims are approximations that may vary depending upon the desired properties sought to be obtained by the embodiments of the present disclosure. At the very least, and not as an attempt to limit the application of the doctrine of equivalents to the scope of the claims, each numerical parameter should at least be construed in light of the number of reported significant digits and by applying ordinary rounding techniques. Certain components of the vaping system described herein will be described as being coupled or connected to one another and such connections and couplings may be achieved in any suitable manner. Additionally, such components may be integrated with one another or distributed in any suitable fashion. As used herein, the vaping system may be described as having parts or portions that are more proximal and parts or portions which are more distal. This is relative to the distance from a user’s mouth with the vaping system is in use. For example, the mouthpiece of the vaping system will be more proximal, or on a proximal end of the vaping system. In one configuration, a portion or feature of the system which is towards the proximal end is closer to the proximal end than the distal end. Similarly, in an exemplary configuration, a portion or feature of the system which is towards the distal end is closer to the distal end than the proximal end.

This disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for improved vaping systems. According to one aspect, an vaping system 10 (FIGs. 1-2) generally includes: a cartridge tank 15 or body with an interior reservoir to be filled with oil or another liquid for vaping; a cartridge base 19 for attachment to a distal end of the tank 15, which may hold an atomizer housing 24 that includes an atomizer or heating element for heating oil to create vapor; a locking sheath 25 for connecting the cartridge tank 15 to the mouthpiece; and a mouthpiece 30 for attachment to a proximal end of the tank 15 and sealing the tank 15 closed.

The tank 15 has a proximal end 31 for connection to the mouthpiece 30 and a distal end 32 for connection to the cartridge base 19. The base 19 may include a means for connection to a battery to provide power to the heating element (shown, by way of example, as threaded distal projection 33 in FIG. 1). Holes 37 in the distal base portion 39 of the atomizer housing 24 allow oil from the reservoir of the tank 15 to enter the atomizer housing 24, contact one or more heating elements, and be heated into vapor. As the oil is vaporized, it travels upward through the central lumen 38, from the distal end 42 of the central lumen 38 to the proximal end 45 of the central lumen 38 to the mouthpiece 30 to be inhaled by the user. The vaping system 10 may include one or more gaskets or seals 75 between the mouthpiece 30 and the tank 15 to ensure the oil or other pre-vapor formulation does not leak out the mouthpiece 30.

The central lumen 38 of the atomizer housing includes one or more ridges 47 at or near the proximal end 45. The configuration illustrated in FIG. 2 includes three ridges: first ridge 47a for interfacing with a locking sheath, as described in more detail below, a second ridge 47b and a third ridge 47c. The space formed between the second and third ridges may receive a gasket. Instead of three ridges, one ridge, two ridge, or four or more ridges may be provided. Gaskets may be placed between ridges or may be left as open space.

Referring to FIGs. 3-5, locking sheath 25 includes a proximal end 51 for interfacing with the mouthpiece 30, and a distal end 55 opposite the proximal end. Distal end 55 may form a distal flange 58 (FIGs. 4-5). In other configurations, a distal flange 58 is not provided. A sidewall 62 of the locking sheath 25 extends from the proximal end 51 to the distal end 55 and forms a substantially hollow interior. The sidewall 62 includes an interior side 65 forming a lumen and an exterior side 69.

One or more structures may be attached to, or formed integrally with the locking sheath 25. Medial ridge 72 extends from the exterior side 69 outwardly. The medial ridge 72 interfaces between the proximal end 31 of the cartridge tank 15 and the distal end 78 of the mouthpiece 30 (FIGs. 7-8). The space formed between the distal flange 58 and medial ridge 72 may receive a sealing gasket 75. In other configurations no sealing gasket is provided, and in some configurations, no medial ridge 72 is provided on the locking sheath 25.

The locking sheath 25 includes one or more teeth 80 for locking the locking sheath into place on the proximal end 45 of the central lumen 38. FIGs. 3-5 illustrate a locking sheath 25 with exactly three teeth, spaced equidistant apart. In other configurations, two or fewer teeth may be provided, and in yet other configurations, four or more teeth may be provided, such as four or five teeth. Teeth 80 extend inwardly from the interior side 65 of the sidewall 62 of the locking sheath 25, or towards the lumen 26 formed by the interior of the locking sheath 25. The teeth 80 may thus be located within a lumen 26 of the locking sheath 25. Teeth may be formed integrally with the locking sheath 25, or teeth may be otherwise connected to locking sheath 25. The interior side 65 of the sidewall 62 may form an interior shelf 84, and teeth 80 may extend proximally and inwardly from the interior shelf 84.

With reference to the top view of FIG. 4, in configurations with exactly three teeth 80 spaced equidistant apart, the width of the teeth 80 may be approximately equal to the space 87 between the teeth. That is, the three teeth 80 may each have a width of about one-sixth of the circumference of the inner lumen of the locking sheath 25. Three teeth 80 may also provide a more even balance for the locking mechanism, similar to a tripod. Instead of the width of the teeth 80 being equal to the space 87 between the teeth, the teeth may be more narrow (i.e., providing more space 87 between the teeth 80), or the teeth may be more wide (i.e., providing less space 87 between the teeth 80).

The space between the teeth 80 may allow for additional flexing of the teeth 80. However, too much space between teeth 80 may not provide enough structural support and rigidity. Additionally, in configurations with an even number of teeth 80 that are spaced equidistant apart (such as two or four teeth), it may create spaces which are directly opposite each other within the lumen of the locking sheath 25 and cause structural weakness. In configurations with exactly three teeth spaced equidistant apart, there is no point on the inner lumen of the locking sheath that is not either covered by one of teeth 80 or is immediately opposite one of teeth 80. This is in contrast, for example, to configurations with four teeth, where there are spaces which are directly opposite other spaces, creating potential structural weakness.

Teeth 80 may interface with the proximal ridge 47a of the central lumen 38. For example, as the locking sheath 25 is placed over the central lumen 48, teeth 80 may engage the ridge 47a, be pushed outwardly by the ridge 47a, and then resiliently return to their resting position, below the ridge 47a. Each of the teeth 80 may have a sloped underside to encourage the teeth to be pushed outwardly by the ridge 47a as the ridge 47a engages the teeth from the bottom to be attached. Once attached, the flat top side of the teeth interfaced against the flat bottom side of the ndge 47a ensures that the locking sheath 25 cannot be removed.

The proximal end 51 of the locking sheath 25 may abut the interior of the mouthpiece 30. Mouthpiece 30 has an external wall 90 surrounding a substantially hollow lumen. Mouthpiece 30 further has an interior guide lumen 92 for guiding vapor from the central lumen 38 of the atomizer housing 24 to a user’s mouth. A slot 95 (best seen in FIG. 10) between the interior guide lumen 92 and the external wall 90 receives the proximal end 51 of the locking sheath 25. The slot 95 is shaped to frictionally fit the proximal end 51 of the locking sheath 25. Glue, ultrasonic welding, or other suitable connection means may also be used to connect the proximal end of the locking sheath 25 to the mouthpiece 30. In other configurations, the mouthpiece 30 is substantially hollow and not provided with an interior guide lumen.

In one configuration, the proximal end 51 of the locking sheath has a notch 97 formed therein. In configurations where the locking sheath 25 is formed by injection molding plastic, the notch 97 may be where plastic is injected into the mold. The notch 97 creates a pocket or void to inject plastic into the mold and reduce any excess plastic without protruding from the height of the part. Excess plastic protruding above the height of the proximal end 51 can cause issues such as reducing the fit between the proximal end 51 of the locking sheath 25 and the slot 95 of the mouthpiece. In other configurations, instead of a notch 97, the proximal end 51 may be flat and not provided with a notch.

The locking sheath 25 may be formed of a variety of materials and in a variety of ways. Injection molding plastic may be used to form all or part of the locking sheath. The locking sheath 25 could be cut from a plastic or metal. All or part of the locking sheath may be formed from metal or other suitable materials known in the art. In other configurations, the locking sheath may be provided with teeth formed of metal, such as a spring steel snap with metal teeth. The spring steel snap may be formed of stamped metal.

The locking sheath 25 includes one or more ribs 99 formed in the exterior side 69 of the sidewall 62 between the medial ridge 72 and the proximal end. The ribs 99 form voids 98 that can receive excess glue in configurations where the locking sheath 25 is glued to the mouthpiece 30. One rib 99 may be provided, or two or three or more ribs 99 may be provided. Instead of ribs 99, the locking sheath 25 may have a substantially smooth exterior side 69 of the sidewall 62 without ribs 99.

Mouthpiece 30 may be fit to the tank in any suitable manner. The mouthpiece 30 may be non-removably attached to the tank 15 to ensure a one-way tamper resistant fit. The mouthpiece 30 may be non-removably attached to the tank 15 by press fitting the locking sheath 25 against a ridge 47a of the central lumen 38. In this type of configuration, the central lumen 38 of the atomizer housing 24 may be provided with one or more ridges 47. Ridges 47 may extend outwardly from the central lumen 38, and in one configuration may be burred or otherwise shaped to facilitate a one-way connection. This burred proximal end 45 of the central lumen 38 may provide a 1-way connection to the mouthpiece 30, such that when the mouthpiece 30 and associated locking sheath 25 is pressed downw ard onto the burred proximal end 45, it cannot be removed. This one-way press-fit design may be tamper-resistant. It will be appreciated that this burred proximal end 45 of the central lumen 38 may be used in conjunction with other designs as described herein.

With reference to FIGs. 11-12, another configuration of a locking sheath 250 is shown. Several ribs 990 are provided between the medial ridge 720 and the proximal end 510.

According to another embodiment, an atomizer with a mouthpiece and heating core is shown in FIGs. 13-17. The embodiments shown in FIGs. 13-17 provide a technical solution that includes : an e-cigarette atomizer with a novel mouthpiece and heating core, comprising an oil cup, wherein a connecting post is sleeved inside the oil cup, a mouthpiece body is sleeved on the outer w all of the top of the connecting post, a decorative part is sleeved on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body, an elastic buckle is arranged on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body, a hanging platform is arranged on the outer wall of the top of the connecting post, and the elastic buckle is coupled on the outer wall of the bottom of the hanging platform.

Further, a first sealing ring is sleeved on the outer wall of the connecting post and on the inner wall of the mouthpiece body, and first flanges are symmetrically arranged on the outer wall of two sides of the first sealing ring and fixedly connected on the outer wall of the connecting post. Further, a second sealing ring is sleeved on the outer wall of the mouthpiece body and on the inner wall of the oil cup.

Further, a first washer is sleeved on the outer wall of the bottom of the connecting post and on the inner wall of the oil cup, a second flange is arranged on the outer wall of the top of the first washer and fixedly connected on the outer wall of the connecting post, and a second washer is arranged on the outer wall of the bottom of the oil cup and sleeved on the outer wall of the connecting post.

Further, a cavity is arranged on the inner wall of the bottom of the connecting post, a non-woven sleeve is sleeved on the inner wall of the cavity, a heating core body is sleeved on the inner wall of the non-woven sleeve, a coil is inlaid and fixed on the inner wall of the heating core body, one end of the coil is fixedly connected to a first pin, the first pin is inlaid and fixed inside the heating core body, the other end of the coil is fixedly connected to the second pin, and the second pin is inlaid and fixed inside the heating core body.

Further, the bottom of the heating core body is provided with a POM, the POM is sleeved on the inner wall of the cavity, the second pin is arranged on the inner wall of the POM, the bottom of the POM is provided with an anode thimble, an electrode silicone sleeve is sleeved on the outer wall of the anode thimble, one end of the first pin is arranged on the inner wall of the electrode silicone sleeve, and a base is sleeved on the outer wall of the electrode silicone sleeve and mounted on the outer wall of the connecting post.

Further, the inner diameter of the coil is d, the inner diameter of the heating core body is D, d is smaller than D, the wire diameter of the coil is xd, and xd cuts D.

The exemplary embodiment illustrated in FIGs. 13-17 includes a heating core, with a coil that is partially exposed in an inner hole of the heating core. This may improve the atomization effect and the taste of smoking; a buckle structure is designed inside the mouthpiece in the present utility model, which works with the hanging platform on the connecting post and can cause the mouthpiece to be tightly fixed on the connecting post to avoid fall and damage of the mouthpiece.

To assemble the vaping system, the heating core body 400 is first wrapped with the non-woven sleeve 4 and put to an appropriate position in the cavity 206, the first pin
