Abstract:
The present invention is directed to reduction of the code amounts in coding and decoding moving images. In an intra prediction process: the ease level of estimating the prediction direction or block mode of a block to be decoded is determined based on the prediction direction data or block mode of each of a plurality of already decoded blocks adjacent to the block to be decoded; the prediction direction data or block mode of the block to be decoded is decoded based on the determination result; and the intra prediction is performed based on the decoded prediction direction data or block mode, thereby generating a decoded image data.
