Abstract:
A multi-language recording medium which enables arbitrary and selective display of large characters which are easy to see, characters for children which are easy to read, explanation texts, etc., in addition to ordinary captions. An optical disk has a management area and a data area. In the data area, main picture information, subpicture information which constructs a plurality of streams of different languages, and audio information are recorded. In the management area, attribute information for identifying each set of subpicture information of the streams is recorded. The attribute information includes language codes representing the kinds of language and expansion codes representing the difference of the size of the characters and/or the difference of the content obtained from the subpicture information are added to the language codes. Subpictures include the streams of large characters which are easy to see and characters for children which are easy to read.
