1. A multiple purpose electrical extension cable apparatus comprising a first electrical supply cable having at one end thereof a plug means which is insertable into a general purpose outlet and having a junction box located at the other end thereof, the junction box having at least one socket outlet into which a second cable having a plug means is able to be inserted, wherein said cable means is connected to at least one further junction box being connected in said apparatus, wherein said junction boxes have at least one general purpose outlet to which electrical appliances are able to be connected.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said junction boxes have a plurality of general purpose outlets.
3. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said second cable means is replaced by a connection plug means between sockets of adjoining junction boxes.
4. Apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said junction box arrangement is constructed of a rigid material.
5. Apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said junction box arrangement is constructed of a flexible material.
6. Apparatus according to claims 4 or 5 wherein said arrangements are fixed to a wall , or a skirting board, or workbench, or suspended above the workplace.
Description:
A MULTIPLE PURPOSE ELECTRICAL EXTENSION CABLE The present invention relates to electrical extension cables, and in particular, to a multiple purpose electrical extension cable which is able to be used to operate electrical apparatus remotely from the outlet.

PRIOR ART It is well known to have an extension with a plurality of outlets located at the end thereof. The extension cable has a plug which is able to be inserted into a general purpose outlet (GPO) with the extension cable being .used so that a number of electrical appliances can be used remotely from the GPO by plugging into the sockets of the remote outlets. Such an arrangement is used firstly when the electrical appliances are to be used at a distance remote from the GPO, and secondly, when there is not enough GPO's provided at a particular location and further outlets are required. This problem is accentuated by the fact that there are usually many electrical appliances available in the market place. The problem associated with this is that usually there are a limited number of power outlets provided in buildings.

It is possible to hardwire an electrical circuit ' arrangement using a distribution pattern by passing wires through conduit. However, such a system is expensive and as it is permanent, it may be preferable to have a system which is easily transportable to be moved to a new location.

While the presently available portable power board is helpful, an apparatus that which provide a GPO at any location in the room or workplace is considered to be desirable.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a multiple purpose electrical extension cable which provides a low cost system which can be easily relocated. DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION

According to one aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a multiple purpose electrical extension cable comprising a first electrical supply cable having at one end thereof a plug means which is insertable into a general purpose outlet and having a junction box located at the other end thereof, the junction box having at least one socket outlet into which a second cable can be inserted, wherein said second cable is connected to at least one further junction box, wherein said junction boxes have at least one general purpose outlet to which electrical appliances are able to be connected.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Some embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings in which Fig. 1 is a schematic view of a multiple purpose electrical extension cable of a preferred embodiment,

Fig. 2 is a view of a junction box of another preferred embodiment.

BEST MODE OF CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION The multiple purpose electrical extension cable 1 illustrated in the drawings comprises a first cable 2 which has a three pin plug 4 connected thereto. A primary junction box 3 is connected to the other end of the first cable 2. The primary junction box 3 has an overload and reset 6 and a socket outlet 5 at each end. A general purpose outlet (GPO) or switched socket 7 is located on one side of the primary junction box 3. The internal connections of the primary junction box 3 are accomplished in the usual manner.

As seen in Fig. 1, a secondary junction box 8 has a cable 9 which has a plug 10 which plugs into one of the socket outlet 6 at the ends of the primary junction box 3. At the other end of the secondary junction box 8 a socket outlet 5 is located so that a plug 10 of another secondary junction box 8 can be inserted therein. Each of the secondary junction boxes 8 has a general purpose outlet or switch socket 7 located at one side thereof.

As seen in Fig. 1, the cable 9 is between 1 and 1.8 meters long which allows GPO's or switched sockets 7 to be located at intervals of between 1 and 1.8 meters from a fixed GPO 12.

In another arrangement illustrated in Fig. 2, the junction box 13 has a plurality of GPO's or switch sockets 7 located along its length which is elongated compared to the primary junction box 3 and the secondary junction box 8. The GPO's or switch sockets 7 are wired in a normal way. Once again, this junction box 13 has socket outlets 5 located at the ends thereof. This arrangement could be constructed of a rigid material or a flexible material .

It is believed that the junction boxes 3, 8 and 13 can be connected by normal extension leads or actually be connected together by using a plug and socket arrangement at the ends thereof.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY The embodiments of the present invention described are suitable for uses where there is a limited number of electrical outlets. The invention

may be used to supply a number of general purpose outlets at intervals to suit a particular need, such as computers, kitchen benches, workshop benches and the like. The arrangements can be fixed to a wall, or a skirting board, workbench or suspended above the workplace.

The foregoing describes only some embodimens of the present invention, and modifications obvious to those skilled in the art can be made thereto without departing from the scope of the present invention.

It is envisaged that the cables into and out of the junction boxes 3, 8 and-13 can be attached to other junction boxes 3, 8 and 13 by means of sockets or other methods if required.
