Abstract:
Novel $g(b)-lactam compounds represented by the following general formula [1]: [1] wherein R?1¿ represents lower alkyl, etc.; R?2¿ represents H or lower alkyl; X represents O, S or NH; m and n are each from 0 to 5, provided that n+m is from 1 to 5; Y?1¿ represents halogeno, etc.; and Y?2¿ represents H, optionally substituted lower alkyl, etc.; salts thereof or nontoxic esters of the same. These compounds exhibit an excellent antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, in particular, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococcus aureus.
