Abstract:
 Provided is a liquid crystal composition having positive dielectric anisotropy as a liquid crystal composition having positive dielectric anisotropy without increasing or reducing the refraction isotropy and nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature, having sufficiently low viscosity, and being devoid of display defects when used in a liquid crystal display element, wherein the liquid crystal composition contains one or more compounds selected from compounds represented by the general formula (LC0), and contains one or more compounds selected from the compound group represented by general formulas (LC1) to (LC5). A liquid crystal display element having excellent reliability capable of maintaining a high voltage retention rate through a high temperature range is provided, the liquid crystal display element being very practicable as a liquid crystal display and being effective in providing higher-speed response without especially making the cell gap thinner.
