Abstract:
Provided are a novel insulating material exhibiting a high thermal conductivity and a large light reflectance, and also a submount for mounting an LED element which can enhance the effective use of a light and can rapidly dissipate the heat generated from the element. A nitride sintered compact, which is produced, for example, by a method comprising providing a formed product comprising a composition having 100 parts by mass of an aluminum nitride powder and 0.5 to 10 parts by mass of an alkaline earth metal-containing compound such as 3CaO·Al2O3, and sintering the formed product in an atmosphere of an inert gas containing a specific amount of a carbon vapor, or a method comprising providing an article comprising a heat-resistant base substrate and a nitride paste applied on the substrate, and sintering the article at a prescribed temperature, and is characterized in that it exhibits a reflectance of a light having its wave length in a region of 350 to 800 nm of 50 % or more and a reflectance of a light having a wave length of 700 nm of 60 % or more, is used as a material of a substrate of a submount.
