A compound represented by the formula (1), which is useful as, e.g., an optical resolver. Also provided is a compound represented by the formula (4) which is derived from the compound represented by the formula (1). In the formulae, Ar¹ and Ar² are different and each represents optionally substituted phenyl, etc.; R¹ represents alkyl, etc.; R² represents a residue of an alcohol compound; and X represents halogeno.
