Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel pumpkin plant having a specifically small seed placenta part and a method for producing the same. The present invention pertains to: a method for producing a pumpkin plant having small seed placenta, said method being characterized by comprising creating, from a progeny individual of F1 seeds obtained by crossbreeding Cucurbita maxima and Cucurbita moschata, a pumpkin plant having small seed placenta in which the ratio by volume of the seed placenta part to the fruit volume is 15% or less; a Cucurbita maxima plant having small seed placenta that has a gene relating to the small seed placenta character of plants belonging to the genus Cucurbita in the nuclear genome; and a pumpkin plant having small seed placenta that is a hybrid plant obtained from the aforesaid Cucurbita maxima plant having small seed placenta as a parental line, or a progeny thereof.
