Provided is a building material 1 provided with a plurality of layers, the building material 1 comprising at least a first layer 11 which is brittle, a second layer 12 which is higher in elastic modulus and allowable stress than the first layer 11, and a third layer 13 which is lower in elastic modulus than the first layer 11. A neutral plane of the building material 1 exists inside or in the vicinity of the second layer 12.
