THE CLAIMS

The“1 DFD Pontics” are pre-set upper and lower full arch pontics which are aesthetic, functional and adjustable. It comprises of acrylic pontics (1 ), which are joined together into a single unit by a piece of wire (2) securely attached to each pontic using cold-cure acrylic (3).

The pontics are pre-set in accordance with the rules and principles of pontic setting in full dentures, following the curves of compensation i.e. the Curve of Monson and the Curve of Spee.

1 The device is characterized in that it consists of an upper and lower pre-set acrylic pontics (1 ). The acrylic pontics (1 ) are joined together into a single unit by a piece of wire (2) using cold-cure acrylic (3).

2 The device is characterized in that the wire (2) which is securely attached to the pontics (1 ) using cold-cure acrylic enables the“1 DFD Pontics” to be adjusted according to clinical needs. 3 The device is characterized in that the“1 DFD Pontics” are set up following the Curve of Monson (Transversal Compensation Curve) (4)

4 The device is characterized in that the“1 DFD Pontics” were set up following the Curve of Spee (Sagittal Compensation Curve) (5).

5 The device is characterized in that the last 4 units of the “1 DFD Pontics” i.e. first premolar, second premolar, first molar and second molar are further cold-cured (6) into a single rigid unit. 6 The device is characterized in that the wire (2) will enable the“1 DFD

Pontics” to be adjusted The device is characterized in that the rigid 4 posterior units of cold- cured pontics (6) will maintain that Curve of Monson and Curve of Spee during adjustment.

DESCRIPTION

Title: “One Day Full Denture (1 DFD) Pontics”

Technical Field

This invention relates to a new device to set up artificial acrylic teeth (hence forth referred to as pontics) for full dentures.

Background Art

Full denture rehabilitation aims at restoring the patient to a state of normal masticatory function, speech, oral health and optimum esthetics. Hence,5 the pontics of the full dentures must be placed in a position which will be esthetically acceptable to the patient and the clinician, functionally sound and in harmony with the other structures of the masticatory system.

The process of setting up pontics is one of the most difficult and time0 consuming steps in making full dentures. It takes time and skill to piece together a natural-looking arch of teeth - one pontic at a time - that also provides proper occlusion.

The“1 DFD Pontics” (Fig 1 ) is a device that aims to make the process of5 setup pontics in full dentures construction easier and faster. Disclosure of Invention

The“1 DFD Pontics” (Fig 1 ) aims to provide a pre-set, full arch upper and lower pontics which is aesthetic, functional and adjustable.

The invention resides broadly in a set of upper and lower pontics, which are pre-set in accordance with the rules and principles of pontics setting for full dentures, following the curves of compensation i.e. the Curve of Monson and the Curve of Spee.

All the aspects of the invention will be made apparent and elucidated further with reference to the embodiment described by way of the following descriptions and with reference to the accompanying drawings.

1 Figure 1 shows the“1 DFD Pontics” from the top view. It consists of upper and lower pre-set acrylic pontics (1 ). The acrylic pontics (1 ) are joined together into a single unit by a piece of wire (2) securely attached to each pontics using cold-cure acrylic (3). 2 Figure 2 shows the“1 DFD Pontics” from the front view. All the pontics are in occlusion and set following the Curve of Monson (Transversal Compensation Curve) (4).

3 Figure 3 shows the“1 DFD Pontics from lateral view. All the pontics are in occlusion and set following the Curve of Spee (Sagittal

Compensation Curve) (5).

4 Figure 4 shows the“1 DFD Pontics” upper and lower pre-set acrylic pontics in an open position. 5 The last 4 units of the “1 DFD Pontics” i.e. first premolar, second premolar, first molar and second molar are further cold-cured (6) into a rigid unit. 6 The wire (2) will enable the“1 DFD Pontics” to be adjusted and the rigid 4 posterior units of cold-cured pontics (6) will maintain that Curve of Monson and Curve of Spee during the adjustment.
