Abstract:
An optical amplifier provided with an amplification optical fiber and a pump light source that supplies pump light to the amplification optical fiber, the pump light being for parametrically amplifying, by means of the nonlinear optical effects of the amplification optical fiber, signal light that is input to the amplification optical fiber. In the longitudinal direction, the variation of the zero dispersion wavelength of the amplification optical fiber is within a range of 0.5 nm/100 m. Thereby, the flatness and broadband performance of a gain spectrum are realized, and a high-gain optical amplifier, optical amplification system, wavelength converter, and optical communication system are provided.
