Abstract:
This optical amplifier is provided with: a pump light source unit; a polarization multiplexer/de-multiplexer; a first polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section; a second polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section; an optical multiplexer/de-multiplexer connected to the first polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section and the second polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section so as to input a pump light to each; a light discharge unit that constitutes an optical loop along with the first polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section and the second polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section, and that discharges the pump light, which has propagated through each of the first polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section and the second polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section, outside the optical loop; and an optical circulator that outputs a signal light that is parametrically amplified by the first polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section and the second polarization-dependent optical amplification fiber section by the pump light in the optical loop, is polarized and synthesized by the polarization multiplexer/de-multiplexer, and outputted from the polarization multiplexer/de-multiplexer.
