The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide an optical coupling unit and an optical switch which can realize stable optical characteristics with respect to external factors, and do so with low power consumption and in a more economic manner. In order to achieve the foregoing, an optical coupling unit of the present disclosure comprises: a first ferrule in which is positioned the core center of one or a plurality of single core fibers, the core center being positioned in the same circumference from the center in a fiber cross section; a second ferrule in which are positioned the core centers of a plurality of single core fibers, the core centers being positioned in a circumference having the same diameter as the circumference in which the core center of the single core fiber is disposed in the first ferrule, from the center in the fiber cross section; and a cylindrical sleeve which has a hollow section into which the first ferrule and the second ferrule are inserted such that the central axes of the first ferrule and the second ferrule coincide, and in which a predetermined gap is provided between the respective outer diameters of the first ferrule and the second ferrule and the inner diameter of the hollow portion, such that the first ferrule and the second ferrule are capable of rotating.
