Abstract:
Provided is an optical device that can suppress deterioration of resin that fixes optical fibers. An optical combiner 20 is provided with: an input-side optical fiber 12; an output-side optical fiber 32; a fiber connection part 53 at which a core 63 of the input-side optical fiber 12 and a core 73 of the output-side optical fiber 32 are connected to each other; a fiber support part 54 that supports optical fibers 12, 32; and fixing resins 81, 82 that respectively fix the optical fibers 12, 32 to the fiber support part 54. The input-side optical fiber 12 has a taper part 66 including a taper start section 64 and a taper body 67 that becomes smaller in diameter from the taper start section 64 toward the fiber connection part 53. The core 73 of the output-side optical fiber 32 has a core exposure area 74 exposed to the outside of the input-side optical fiber 12. The fixing resin 81 is located on a side that is close to an optical axis 90 of the output-side optical fiber 32 relative to a reference line L1 obtained by extending a line passing through the point on the outer peripheral profile line 65 closest to the optical axis 90, among lines each drawn from a point on an inner side profile line 75 for defining the core exposure area 74 to a point on an outer peripheral profile line 65 of the taper start section 64 without colliding with the taper body 67.
