Abstract:
The optical device according to an embodiment of this disclosure comprises a light source, an optical waveguide element, a photodetector, and an optical system. The light source emits a light beam including a plurality of wavelength components. The optical waveguide element comprises a first grating having a refractive index that changes along the radial direction of an imaginary circle centered on a point upon which the light beam is incident and a second grating disposed outside the first grating. The first grating causes a portion of the light beam to propagate as guided light through the optical waveguide element along the radial direction. The second grating emits a portion of the guided light from the optical waveguide element as an emitted light beam. The optical system causes the light beam to fall on the first grating and causes a reflected light beam produced by the reflection of the emitted light beam by an object to fall on the second grating. A portion of the reflected light beam that has fallen on the second grating propagates through the optical waveguide element and is emitted from the first grating as a return light beam. The optical system causes a portion of the return light beam to fall on the photodetector as a plurality of split light beams split according to wavelength.
