Abstract:
An optical fiber (1) for optical amplification which is used for amplification of signal light in a 1.58 $g(m)m band and in which Er is added to at least a core region (11), characterized in that at least part of the core region (11) is made of silica glass to which Ge and Al are added along with Er, the average atomic concentration of Er in the core region (11) is 950 to 3000 wtppm, and the mode field diameter in the 1.58 $g(m)m band is over 5 $g(m)m.
