Abstract:
An optical fiber amplifier (400, 500, 600, 701, 704, 711, 714, 803, 804, 805, 816, 817, 818) and a method for amplifying an optical signal. The optical fiber amplifier (400, 500, 600, 701, 704, 711, 714, 803, 804, 805, 816, 817, 818) comprises: a multi-mode pump unit (410) used for generating a multi-mode pump laser; an input unit (420) used for inputting an input optical signal and the multi-mode pump laser to a first optical path (440), the first optical path (440) belonging to a resonant amplification unit (430); the resonant amplification unit (430) used for generating a single-mode pump laser of a first wavelength range according to the multi-mode pump laser, and repeatedly oscillating the single-mode pump laser of the first wavelength range in the first optical path (440), so that the single-mode pump laser of the first wavelength range amplifies the input optical signal; and an output unit (450) used for outputting the amplified input optical signal. The optical fiber amplifier (400, 500, 600, 701, 704, 711, 714, 803, 804, 805, 816, 817, 818) converts a multi-mode pump laser generated by a multi-mode pump (509, 519, 610, 630, 801, 811) into a single-mode pump laser, so that a single-mode pump (107) having lower output power and a higher cost is replaced by a multi-mode pump (509, 519, 610, 630, 801, 811) having higher output power and a lower cost, the pump cost is reduced, and the optical discharge saturated light output power is improved.
