Abstract:
This embodiment relates to an optical fiber base material manufacturing method in which two or more types of alkaline metal elements are diffused and applied to an inner surface of a glass pipe, wherein said manufacturing method is provided with: a first drying step that is executed at a temperature that is equal to or less than the lowest temperature among the melting point temperatures of alkaline metal salt raw materials; and a second drying step that is executed at a temperature that is equal to or greater than the highest temperature among the melting point temperatures of the alkaline metal salt raw materials and at which the vapor pressure of the alkaline metal salt raw materials becomes equal to or less than 2 mmHg.
