Abstract:
Disclosed are: an optical fiber wherein the light entered into the cladding is easily discharged outside the cladding; and a laser device using the optical fiber.
Specifically disclosed is an optical fiber (50), which comprises a core (51) and a cladding (52) that covers the core (51), and which is characterized in that the cladding (52) has a refractive index changing region (56) wherein the refractive index increases from the radially inside toward the radially outside. Due to the configuration, even in cases where light enters into the cladding (52), the light transmitted to the refractive index changing region (56) of the cladding (52) is refracted and transmitted from the radially inside to the radially outside of the cladding (52). Consequently, light entered into the cladding (52) can be easily discharged outside the cladding (52).
