Abstract:
An optical fiber pertaining to an embodiment of the present invention is provided with a core and a cladding. The average value n1_ave of the refractive index in the core, the minimum value nc_min of the refractive index in the cladding, and the refractive index n0 of pure silica glass satisfy the relationships n1_ave > nc_min and nc_min < n0. The cladding includes fluorine. The fluorine concentration of the cladding is adjusted so as to be smallest in the outermost part of the cladding including the outer circumferential surface of the cladding.
