Abstract:
Provided is an end-surface connection type optical module capable of forming highly accurate optical connection while suppressing damage to optical end surfaces due to abutment of the optical end surfaces. The optical module according to the present disclosure is of an end-surface connection type in which an optical waveguide provided in an optical integrated circuit and an optical fiber provided in a fiber block form an optical connection at respective optical end surfaces. The fiber block has a protrusion part protruding from the optical end surface thereof to the upper surface of the optical integrated circuit when the fiber block is connected to the optical integrated circuit. The forming of the optical connection between the optical waveguide and the optical fiber includes abutting the bottom surface of the protrusion part and the upper surface of the optical integrated circuit before the optical end surfaces are connected.
