Abstract:
To enhance tolerance toward variations in wavelength and in production process, prevent an increase in size even subjected to higher delta modulation, and bring a flattened band into a higher band. An AWG comprising an input optical waveguide (101), an output optical waveguide (102), a waveguide array (107), an input-side coupler waveguide (105), an output-side coupler waveguide (106), an input-side connection waveguide (103), and an output-side connection waveguide (104), wherein the input-side connection waveguide (103) is composed of a mode conversion waveguide (108) having a mode mixer for mixing a zero-order mode light with a first-order mode light and a mode interferer for effecting interference between modes, and the output-side connection waveguide (104) is composed of a tapered waveguide (109).
