Title:
OPTICAL RECEPTACLE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/208752
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
This optical receptacle is characterized by being provided with: an optical fiber having a core; a fiber stub including a ferrule with a through-hole in which the optical fiber is fixed, and an elastic member packed into the through-hole of the ferrule; and a retainer; and is characterized in that the through-hole of the ferrule has a small-diameter section and a large-diameter section, the optical fiber is arranged across the entire area in the small-diameter section of the through-hole in the ferrule, the elastic member has a refractive index approximately the same as that of the core and is packed in both the small-diameter section and the large-diameter section, and, on the end surface of the fiber stub opposite of the side optically connecting to the plug ferrule, at least part of the elastic member is polished to a flat surface area. Breakage of the optical fiber and reductions in coupling efficiency are prevented by arranging the optical fiber across the entire area in the small-diameter section of the through-hole in the ferrule, and, even without processing the fiber end surface by planarizing the end surface of the elastic member packed into the through-hole in the ferrule, reductions in the coupling efficiency due to reflection are precluded, making more economic production possible.
