Abstract:
[Problem] In image display devices that use optical scanners, devices are large and image quality is reduced.
[Solution] This optical scanner and image display device using the same include: a light source that outputs beam light in a first polarized state; a polarized light separating element; and a light scanning element that directs the beam light output by the light source toward a surface to be scanned and makes the beam light scan. The light scanning element converts the beam light which has been input in the first polarized state to beam light in a second polarized state and radiates the same toward the polarized light separating element. The polarized light separating element spatially separates the beam light into the beam light in the first polarized state and the beam light in the second polarized state.
