Abstract:
Provided is an optical switch device achieving low loss with fewer ports for optical switches on networks and in node devices capable of transferring optical signals using the OCS and OPS methods. The optical switch device is provided with a high-speed add-drop optical switch comprising a plurality of optical switches. The optical switches comprise an optical waveguide structure of a material having a refractive index or absorption coefficient that changes on the order of nanoseconds, and by changing the refractive index or the absorption coefficient, performs switching of optical signals using the Optical Circuit Switching (OCS) method as well as optical signals using the Optical Packet Switching (OPS) method. The optical switch device is also provided with a plurality of circulators connected to respective input ports and output ports of the high-speed add-drop optical switch.
