Abstract:
An optical system (100) and a corresponding method for efficiently wavelength dispersing an incoming beam (201) with a grism (101), and spatially separating the dispersed beam from the incoming beam (201) by total internal reflection in the grism (101). The grism (101) comprises a first prism surface (102), a second prism surface (103) with a grating (105), and a third prism surface (104), and is arranged in the optical system (100) to receive the incoming beam (201) with the first prism surface (102). The second prism surface (103) is configured to receive the incoming beam (201) from the first prism surface (102), and to diffract the incoming beam (201) to form a diffracted beam (202). The first prism surface (102) is configured to receive the diffracted beam (202) from the second prism surface (103) and to reflect the diffracted beam (202) by total internal reflection towards and/or out of the third prism surface (104).
