Abstract:
An optical waveguide circuit provided with: a first and second input optical waveguide to which a first beam of light and a second beam of light are inputted; a first polarization beam splitter connected to the first input optical waveguide; an optical interference element to which one of the beams of light of two polarized waves bisecting each other and subjected to polarization division and outputted by the first polarization beam splitter is inputted and to which one of the beams of light of two polarized waves generated from the second beam of light and bisecting one another is inputted and which interferes the aforementioned inputted beams of light; a first connection optical waveguide for connecting the first polarization beam splitter with the optical interference element; and a second connection optical waveguide for connecting the second input optical waveguide with the optical interference element. The first and second input optical waveguides are formed in a roughly straight shape or in the shape of an S comprising a first curved section having a predetermined curvature radius and arc angle, and a second curved section having a curvature radius and arc angle that are set so as to cancel the rotation of the polarization of the light generated at the first curved section. The first polarization beam splitter, the first and second connection optical waveguides, and the optical interference element are disposed so as to form an S shape.
