Abstract:
Provided are: an original document detection device which is capable of more accurately detecting the area of an original document; and an original document detection method. A background image is acquired by photographing an aperture plate serving as the background of the original document, while the original document is in a state of not having been disposed thereon. A background image including the original document is subsequently acquired by photographing the same range as the background image, while the original document is in a state of having been disposed on the upper surface of the aperture plate. A difference image is subsequently generated by subtracting the background image from the background image including the original document. An inverse difference image is also generated by subtracting the background image including the original document from the background image. The area of the original document is detected on the basis of the difference image and the inverse difference image.
