Abstract:
A support for osmium oxide supporting which comprises an aromatic polyolefin having a group represented by the general formula [1] -A'-O(-A-O)¿n?-R [1] (wherein A represents alkylene; A' represents a bond or alkylene; R represents aryl; and n is an integer of 1 to 10); osmium oxide deposited on the support; and a process for producing the osmium oxide. Since the osmium oxide has been deposited on the support having a hydrophilic group, it enables a diol compound to be easily produced in a high optical yield through oxidation or asymmetric oxidation especially in a heterogeneous system. It is usable safely and effectively also in the reactions of compounds including those which have been difficult to react in a nonaqueous solvent system.
