Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: an oxygen carrier which contains a metal oxide containing Cu (copper), in which the conversion efficiency of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide is high and which can be used in, for example, a chemical looping method; a method for producing said oxygen carrier; and a method for producing a gas using said oxygen carrier. [Solution] This oxygen carrier contains a metal oxide represented by the formula Cu1-x(M)xOy (here, M is an element having a Pauling electronegativity of 1.3-2.3, x is a positive integer, and y is an integer between 1 and 4). In addition, one preferred embodiment of this oxygen carrier is characterized: by containing a metal oxide containing copper (Cu) and a second element such as zinc (Zn); and in that when the metal oxide is subjected to X-Ray diffraction measurements, at least one diffraction peak having a half value width of 0.7° or less is observed in an X-Ray diffraction profile.
