Abstract:
A process for production of a water−soluble (meth)acrylic polymer having a neutralized group content of 90 mole % or below based on the total of free acid groups and neutralized groups, which comprises the photopolymerization step of subjecting a reaction fluid comprising a monomer component containing (meth)acrylic monomers in an amount of 50 mole % or above based on the total of monomers used in the polymerization, a photopolymerization initiator, a chain transfer agent, and a polymerization solvent to irradiation with near ultraviolet rays to polymerize the monomer component, and in which the concentration of the monomer component in the reaction fluid at polymerization is adjusted to 40 to 97 % by mass.
