Abstract:
The invention provides a process permitting easy production in high yield of &agr -aminooxyketones, which are equivalents for the synthesis of monosaccharides or pentoses and equivalents of &agr -hydroxyketones serving as intermediates in the synthesis of various physiologically active substances, and develops a route for synthesizing monosaccharides from &agr -hydroxyketones derived from &agr -aminooxyketones obtained by the above process and further synthesizing oligosaccharides from the monosaccharides to thereby open the possibility of synthesis of various sugar drugs such as anticancer agents, antithrombotic agents, anti-HIV agents, cholesterol synthesis inhibitors, and Vero toxin neutralizers. According to the invention, &agr -aminooxyketones are produced by reacting a carbonyl compound with a nitroso compound by the use of a catalyst containing a heterocyclic compound represented by the general formula (I) wherein X1 to X3 are each independently nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, or sulfur; and Z is a substituted or unsubstituted 5- to 10-membered ring.
